MySQL Workbench

Last Updated: Jul 12, 2017 03:31PM PDT
MySQL manages privileges based on the username and the host where the user is accessing from.  Therefore, if you want to use MySQL Workbench
remotely to access the server from a different machine, you need to add or configure a user in the MySQL user table for remote access.  During
the MySQL install you have the opportunity to add some MySQL users in addition to the root user.  This would be a convenient time to do it,
but you can also do it later by updating the "mysql.user" table using the local MySQL Command Line Client utility (from the Start menu) or a
local Workbench query window.  For example:

   CREATE USER 'username'@'remote_host' IDENTIFIED BY 'password';
   GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'username'@'remote_host';
   FLUSH PRIVILEGES;  --may or may not be required
